Nurturing community is at the heart of Volta. The climbing aspect of our gym is a passion-inspired means to bring people together in a healthy, supportive, and playful way. In addition, Volta offers dynamic fitness options, group experiences, teams and more, to encourage you to learn new skills and make new connections. Volta is committed to personal growth and community building.

When we make choices about our health and energy, we contribute to the vitality of the world we inhabit. The systems that surround us are imperfect and imbalanced, which makes being intentional all the more important. With solar panels, highly efficient HVAC and air filtration, and other choices about the products we use and brands we work with, Volta strives to apply the same intentionality on a larger scale. Volta is committed to fostering a healthy environment, inside and out.

We are always having an impact. Choosing what our impact will be begins with self awareness, acknowledgement, and a dedication to learning. By engaging with our limits and encouraging the people around us, we all grow our capacity for mutual care and respect. True accessibility is driven by the needs of our community. Volta has many ideas about potential programs and scholarships but we want to hear from you. Volta is committed to listening.

  • Kilter Board

    The Kilter Board features holds that light up around their edge using an app and LED light system. Control the board using your own phone to set and name unique problems, or try some that other climbers have dreamed up!

The dream for a climbing gym in Downeast Maine has been alive for decades, with two attempts that ended in disappointment. With our team spanning five decades in age, we are on an arc of time and experience that has given this project heart and bones. Its time has come.

Our hope is that this space will be a try-hard destination for the dedicated climbers that live and travel here, as well as a point of discovery for those that have never tried climbing or are only just beginning.

We are grateful to the people that have supported this project, given us counsel, and sent us encouragement and excitement. It has taken us years to develop Volta and now our doors are open!
